In the State of Florida, getting a real estate broker’s license requires obtaining 2 years of experience as a licensed sales associate. Beyond experience, you must complete a 72-hour Florida Real Estate Broker Pre-license course and pass the state licensing exam. Florida Real Estate Application Process:
- You can submit a state application with the DBPR: State Application
- Applicants must meet the following requirements:At
- least 18 years of age
- Hold a high school diploma or GED (equivalence)
- Have a valid and active sales associate license for at least 24 months within the past 5 years.
- You must be with a broker or government agency during this period of time
Completing the required education:
The required 72-hour pre-license course can be completed in class or online. When it comes to getting your broker’s license, we strongly recommend choosing a school with a history of training individuals for success. The broker’s exam can be difficult if you do not properly prepare for it.

Classroom Education:
Compass Real Estate Academy offers the Florida real estate broker’s pre-license course in a classroom format at all locations throughout South Florida. The usual format for this course is as follows:
- Days (4 weeks) Tues & Thurs from 9:00am-6:00pm
- Days (2 weeks) Mon-Thurs 9:00am-6:00pm
- Evenings (8 weeks) Tues & Thurs 6:30pm-11:00pm

Online Education:
The 72-hour broker pre-license course can also be completed online. We caution anyone taking this course online to do their research. There are many providers of online education, and some fail to deliver the quality course that you need to successfully pass the exam and get your license.
Getting your real estate broker’s license:
Once your state application has been approved and your education is complete, you can schedule your state exam with the testing center PearsonVue. Test takers must score at least a 75% or higher on the state exam in order to obtain a broker’s license. Once that score is achieved, you are considered a broker and are on your way to growing your real estate career!
